Family Hotel Review: Villa Sai Taan, Phuket, Thailand

What I love about having your own villa is the space to lounge about and this 4-bedroom villa is a personal favourite.

Best For: Lounging in luxury; kids of all ages.

Why You’ll Love It

What I love about have your own villa is the space to lounge about and this villa is a favourite owing to its great living room with a comfy sofa and big TV. In fact, we like this place so much that we’ve escaped to the Sai Taan Villa complex for the last couple of Christmases. The last time we visited we were a party of six adults and two kids aged three and one.

Villa Sai Taan is a privately owned four-bed villa. The owner is an Australian music mogul who uses it every few months so the place has a very lived in feel with all his knick-knacks (signed photo of Bette Midler anyone?), books and DVDs on display – there’s even a Christmas tree!

The rooms all open onto a central, blue mosaic swimming pool and flanked by sun loungers and parasols. There’s also an outdoor bar area that’s perfect for afternoon G&Ts. The villa is just a short taxi ride away to the nearest beach and so we spent our days alternating between the pool and the white sands and had a very easy and relaxing holiday.

Why The Kids Will Love It

For the last four years that we’ve been visiting Thailand we almost always stay in a private villa as they are simply so easy for families. Villa Sai Taan is a great option for families owing to the layout, location and facilities.

The Villa Manager provided two high chairs for us on this trip and a choice of baby cot. A large box of pool and beach toys was also available for my kids, which was a nice touch. The pool is a great size and because all the rooms open onto the pool, you can easily keep an eye on the kids.

Although the villa is not located within walking distance to the beach, it’s just a short taxi ride away and you’re also very close to some of my favourite Phuket restaurants including Bake (for coffee and cake), Flame (for amazing rotisseries chickens, burgers, kebabs and pasta) and Tatonka for Thai food with a twist. That said, we didn’t leave the villa much during this last visit as the onsite chefs were so good – and great at creating kid-friendly dishes too.

Villa Details

Rooms:

The Main Villa has three bedrooms. The Master Bedroom enjoys a superb super king-size four-poster bed, adjoining study (you could easily sleep someone here), a luxury ensuite bathroom and a private spa that opens onto the gardens. There are two Twin Bedrooms each with their own ensuite bathroom. The standalone Guest Villa (or 4th bedroom) is well appointed with a lounge area and ensuite bathroom.

Food:

You can choose to hire a chef for the duration of your stay and we barely left the villa the onsite chefs were so good and cooked up a storm daily. The cost of the chef was included in our price and we paid them daily for the ingredients; check when booking to confirm what is included in the price.

Travel Information

When to go:

Phuket is at its best from December to March when daytime temperatures hover around 27C. This is also peak season, however, so expect to pay more for your accommodation. The rainy season is supposed to fall from somewhere in July through to October but it might start as early as June and sometimes continues into December. October, however, is generally considered to be the wettest month. Don’t let the rains put you off though, the temperatures are cooler during these months, the beaches are less crowded and you can often get good hotel deals. April and May are the hottest months with temperatures reaching 40C.

Location & Travel:

The villa is approximately 5 minutes by taxi to the nearest beach, Bangtao. A lovely stretch, not too overpopulated with the big resorts and some nice restaurants, beach shops etc. You are also a 5-minute walk to the local high street of Cherng Talay, which has a great selection of restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy, bank and shops. Sai Taan Villa is located 20 km (approximately 15 minutes drive) from Phuket airport.
