Finding the right accommodation for a family holiday can be tricky, particularly when travelling to a new destination. We’ve spent a lot of time scouring family hotels in Asia and are currently exploring family-friendly places to stay in Mexico and Panama, but when we’re travelling in the rest of the world with kids in tow, these are some of the websites we love to turn to.
1. Kid & Coe
Launched in 2013 this stylish site is like an Air B&B for families. Every property listed is family-friendly, well stocked with kiddie supplies (from high chairs and cots to books and toys) and infinitely more stylish than anywhere I have ever lived.
The site is still fairly new so some destinations only feature one or two properties to choose from. Head to NYC, however, and you’ll have a huge number of hip homes to choose from. We can only see their property portfolio increasing, however. Definitely one to subscribe to.
2. Baby Friendly Boltholes
Particularly good for UK families with small children is this website that features a hand-picked collection of cottages, farmstays, chalets, hotels, villas and more. Like Kid & Coe, every property has been chosen for its family-friendliness and a handy list shows what is available at each property for parents and kids – from cots and babysitting to indoor toys games and nearby amenities.
The UK is very well covered and the overseas property portfolio is growing with Europe and some more long-haul destinations featured.
3. Ciao Bambino!
One of the original hotel booking sites for family-friendly accommodation, Ciao Bambino is still one of our favourites. It’s great for hotels in Europe and the US and the rest-of-the-world collection is slowly increasing. What we really like about Ciao Bambino are the blog articles that are inspiring and informative such as their recent post, 52 Things to know before travelling to Italy with Kids.
They also feature a consultancy service to help take the headache out of planning a family trip. This fee-based service is available for all the destinations they cover and while we’ve yet to try it, we like the idea!
4. Smith & Family
The British boutique hotel Brand Mr & Mrs Smith launched their ‘with kids’ site to cater to all those bright young couples now facing the realities of holidaying with their sprogs in tow. Like the parent site, Smith & Family features both beautiful hotels and stylish self-catering properties. And, just like the grown-up site, the price bracket tends to be on the high side.
What I do like about Smith, however, is that all the properties are personally visited and reviewed and they point out useful things like whether or not your baby monitor will work when you’re having dinner in the restaurant. Their property portfolio focuses mainly on UK and Europe although there’s a decent selection further afield, particularly in Asia.
5. Luxury And Little Ones
Although fairly new this site has an interesting selection of properties on its books in a huge number of places. Their property portfolio includes hotels in UK, Switzerland, Spain, Morocco, Seychelles, The Carribean, Malaysia, France, Portugal, Greece, The Canary Islands, Jamaica, Indonesia and South Africa – and that’s just some of the destinations they cover.
The vast majority of properties are hotels, rather than self-catering properties, and the portfolio tends to favour beach type resorts rather than city hotels. This is the site for you if you’re looking to lie on the beach for a couple of weeks! Hotels can be searched for using the map or by criteria. The site acts a full travel agency and can help arrange flights and transfers for properties overseas.
6. Feather & Flip
I know we said 5 but we’re very excited about the imminent launch of Feather & Flip that promises to be a super stylish spot for finding family approved hotels. We think it’s going to be a good one!
