Why you’ll love L’Hermitage Hotel Vancouver
We spent our first night in Vancouver in L’Hermitage and it was the perfect fit for our family. Positioned in the heart of the city, this family-friendly boutique hotel is within easy walking distance of the main shopping and restaurant districts, making it a great base from which to explore Vancouver.
L’Hermitage has 60 rooms, located on the 5th, 6th and 7th floor of a residential tower. There’s a lovely restaurant, L’Orangerie lounge where complimentary tea or coffee is served and a fantastic rooftop saltwater swimming pool. But what really makes this hotel stand out (and the reason why it’s the winner of various awards) is the service. The staff when we stayed were truly fantastic and nothing was too much trouble.
We had requested an early check-in and although the room was not available when we arrived, the staff could not have been more accommodating. They provided breakfast for our kids, even though breakfast had officially finished, stored our bags for us and called us the minute our room was ready. This ‘can do’ attitude and the constant cheery demeanour of everyone who worked here, really made our stay at L’Hermitage stand out.
Why the kids will love L’Hermitage Hotel Vancouver
L’Hermitage Vancouver is a wonderful hotel for families. There are no kids’ clubs or dedicated kids’ activities but this beautiful boutique hotel treats children as proper guests, which is hugely important in my book. We stayed here with our three children aged 7- and 5-years and 4 months, and the kids thought it was great.
Highlights for the oldest two was the buffet breakfast where endless pastries, yoghurts and fresh fruit were available, and the 5th floor rooftop lap pool where they decided to spend most of the afternoon.
We had booked a One-bedroom “home” that was the perfect size for our short stay and came with a fully-equipped kitchen. There was even a washer / dryer which, had this been the end of our holiday, would have been perfect. The kids loved the room because the sofa bed was positioned directly in front of the TV, meaning movies in bed at nighttime!

Best rooms for families: We enjoyed a One Bedroom Signature Suite and it was perfect for us. A small balcony (now enclosed), sat off the bedroom and provided the perfect space for the baby cot. The living room had a comfortable sofa bed where the two eldest slept. Having the kitchen was a bonus as, although we did not cook, we could order room service and have space to eat. And the fridge meant we could keep the wine chilled!

When to go:
The best times to visit Vancouver are from March to May and from September to November when the weather is mild and hotel rooms can be found at bargain rates. Summer is the most popular time thanks to warmer weather; this can be reflected in hotel rates and availability. Winter is also a great time to visit, particularly if you’re looking to hit the ski slopes!
Location & Travel:
L’Hermitage Hotel is located on the corner of Richards and Robson Street in the very heart of Vancouver’s shopping and entertainment district and only blocks from its financial centre. Vancouver International Airport is the closest airport, 13km away. A train runs into the city centre from the airport or cabs are easily available. There are regularly daily flights to international and domestic destinations from the airport.
1) Don’t spend all your time sightseeing! Make sure to leave a couple of hours for playing in the saltwater swimming pool.
2) If you’re travelling with more than one child then it’s worth getting a larger room so that you all have a bit of space.
3) Make use of the hotel concierge for tips and ideas of what to do in Vancouver, the staff are all incredibly helpful.
