A Day Trip to Laiya Beach
If you are in need of a beach fix and do not want to fly or go by boat then Laiya Beach is your best option. It’s located on the coast of South Luzon and can be reached by car (you don’t need to take a boat). It’s a three- to four-hour drive from Manila. The beach is clean and tranquil (unlike most of the other resorts in Batangas) and our daughter was happy to play in the sand and splash in the shallow waters.
If you want a longer city break then you can stay overnight and there are several hotels to choose from along the beach including Acuatico Beach Resort & Hotel, Virgin Beach Resort and Blue Coral Beach Resort.
The hotels offer the usual amenities including spa, restaurants and kiddie parks. We were happy to take it easy while our daughter dug in the sand, played in the park and made friends with the other children staying at the resort. The combination of sand, bucket, spade and water never fails to amuse. If you are travelling with teenagers chose a resort with some activities, as they may need more to entertain them than sand castles. The freedom the beach offers is a great respite from the city as the kids were able to run along the deserted beach keeping within eyeshot.
Getting there: From Metro Manila via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) which ends in Calamba. There is a 7km stretch up to the Sto. Tomas entry to the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Toll way) which now extends up to Batangas City. Continue along the STAR Tollway to the San Jose, Ibaan Exit 11kms. of road that narrows to a 2-lane highway just after the Lipa City Exit. Take the San Jose/ Ibaan exit turning left to Ibaan, following the main national road you will travel through Rosario up to San Juan.
