A Day Trip to Pico de Loro Beach
Pico de Loro is one of the closest beaches to Manila and is a great option for families. We have visited as a day trip (it’s a three-hour drive from Manila) and we have stayed overnight. The Pico de Loro Beach Resort is listed as members only but you can easily book a room through AirBnB as many of the rooms are privately owned and rented out by the owners. There are easy hikes for kids, a brown but clean sandy beach (with toilets and showers), a fabulous kids pool and a great indoor kids play area.
When we visited, our kids played on the beach for hours, splashed in the waves, swam in the sea and pool and when it got too hot they retreated to the indoor play area. The hotel itself is not the most aesthetically pleasing due to its huge imposing condos. However, this is offset by the stunning walkways around the lake just in front of the hotel complex where the kids can see giant water lilies and feed the ducks.
The kids pools here are a real find. It was ideal for our youngest as there were really shallow pools joined together, little fountains and walkways. I could watch Maya, my eldest, who can just swim on her own while holding Gillan in the baby friendly shallower areas.
There are two routes from Manila that will take you to Pico de Loro, see here for detailed instructions.
