The 19 best hotels in Tokyo for families 2024 (+map)

Tokyo is an incredible place for families where immersive art museums and giant robots sit alongside ancient shrines and centuries-old temples. But deciding which are the best family hotels in Tokyo can be tricky; the city lacks one central neighbourhood and is instead made up of 14 urban hubs, each with its own character and identity. While these self-contained districts are fun to explore, it can make choosing where to check in a little confusing.

The good news, however, is that Tokyo is very easy to get around once you get the hang of public transportation so providing that you stay somewhere in the centre of Tokyo then you will usually be a quick subway ride away from the city’s major attractions. Take a look at our 7 day Tokyo itinerary for ideas on how to plan your time in the city.

Here’s our pick of the best hotels in Tokyo for families.

Hilton Tokyo Bay

One of the best hotels in Tokyo for families has to be the Hilton Tokyo Bay. Ideally located for easy access to the city’s two Disney Resorts, Disneyland and DisneySea, the hotel is one of six official Disney Resort partner hotels.

Ignore the rather soulless exterior of this enormous building and focus instead on the 828 whimsical guest rooms. Of these, 636 are children-focused and are decorated with colourful themes telling the story of the hotel’s very own character, Tiara, a young witch.

The 260-plus Happy Magic Rooms enjoy tree murals on the walls, cartoon blue skies on the ceilings and interactive features such as the large key that emits magical sounds when inserted into the wall. If visiting with teens then the futuristic Celebrio guestrooms and suites are better suited.

In terms of hotel amenities you are spoiled for choice. Alongside the fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, squash court and exercise classes there’s a spa with a large outdoor swimming pool, four restaurants, shops and a coffee shop.

The hotel is just on hour from Haneda airport and 90 minutes from Narita Airport.

Much of the interiors are fashioned from reclaimed timber, staff uniforms are made from surplus denim and amenities – including recycled-rubber bathroom slippers – are produced locally.

Godzilla

Gracery Shinjuku

This enormous hotel sits at the heart of Tokyo’s buzzing entertainment district of Shinjuku surrounded by futuristic skyscrapers and flashing neon lights.

The almost 1,000 compact and tidy rooms occupy the top 22 floors of a 30-storey glass and steel skyscraper and the hotel is happy to accommodate families. Children under 12 stay for free if they are happy to share a bed or the Comfort Twin Rooms come with a sofa bed in addition to two beds. Triple rooms are also available.

But it’s not the buzzy location, value-for-money rooms or 24-hour laundromat (a blessing when travelling with kids) that you come here for. No, it’s the Godzilla theme that runs throughout the hotel in particular on the eight floor terrace where a 12-metre Godzilla statue roars and blows smoke ever hour between 12pm and 8pm.

There are even two dedicated Godzilla rooms to choose from. The Godzilla Room is decorated with film stills and an enormous Godzilla claw for a headboard. From the Godzilla View Room you can come face to face with the smoke-breathing terrace statue.

OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka

The no-frills Yagura rooms at OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka look not dissimilar to what you might imagine a room at IKEA might look like if it was built entirely from flat pack (this in-room wood scaffolding is known natively as ‘yagura’). But while the rooms are compact and simple they are also cosy and cool and a great option for families looking for a good value stay.

The lower level seating area can be transformed into a bed, perfect for a child. If travelling with more than one child then you will need to book two rooms.
